Dr. Wolf Becke studied mathematics, physics and economics at the universities of Bonn and Freiburg, finishing his post-graduate term with a PhD in mathematics, before joining the world of reinsurance in 1978. After spending twelve years at a medium-sized reinsurer in Hamburg involved in life reinsurance, financial, accounting and investments he moved to join Hannover Re in Hannover in autumn 1990, with the specific mandate to extend their portfolio beyond non-life reinsurance, the vastly dominating part of their activities at that time.
After promotion to Executive Board (Vorstand) in 1992, he successfully contributed to developing the Company into a leading force in international life & health reinsurance over the next years, since 1999 as CEO of the Business Group 'Hannover Life Re'. He retired at the end of 2011 from Hannover Re but retained several non-executive directorships for their subsidiaries in the USA, Bermuda, Australian and Ireland. In April 2012, Wolf was also appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Swiss Life Holding in Zurich, a major international life insurance group.
Terri Botosan, President, Hub Financial Inc. is responsible for the direction and success of Canada's largest MGA operation, in addition to Hub's Mutual Fund dealership. Hub Financial represents all major Canadian brokerage companies and provides marketing and administrative services to over 3,000 independent advisors across Canada. The company has been built on a solid value proposition that adds depth and expertise to their advisors practices.
Terri started her career in the life insurance industry in 1986. She spent 12 years at Financial Life before going to Unity Life Assurance in the fall of 1998. She has been the President of Hub Financial Inc. and Hub Capital Inc. since the fall of 2000. The experience in both manufacturing and distribution helps her have a unique perspective in our industry.
Terri is an FLMI and is currently working towards her Chartered Financial Planner designation.
Steven Mannik served as President and Chief Executive Officer at General Re Life Corporation from 2007 to 2016. General Re Life Corporation is the North American life and health arm of General Re Corporation and a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. While at Gen Re, Steven also held key leadership roles for two group-wide initiatives – Decision Analytics (Big Data / Predictive Modelling) and a Legacy Enterprise Systems conversion to SAP.
Prior to Gen Re, he was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Manulife Reinsurance with responsibility for all aspects of Manulife's reinsurance lines of business worldwide. He was also Vice President of Business Development at Manulife from 1999-2001.
Steven is a Fellow of The Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He also serves on the advisory board of Ladder Life.
After leaving Cambridge with a law degree and qualifying as a solicitor, Robin joined the insurance industry in 1987 as Group Counsel at Lowndes Lambert and eventually MD International. Following the merger with CE Heath in 2000, he left to co-found RI3K, the first e-trading platform for the London market and their platform of choice today. In the role of COO he had overall responsibility for the technology design and key customer relationships.
Robin left in 2013 when the company was acquired by EBIX and now works as a consultant advising the insurance community on innovation and assisting the innovators by bringing their technologies to market and connecting them to sources of capital.
Doug has held a number of diverse senior roles in the Financial Services Industry including; Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Transamerica Life and AEGON Funds, a leading Canadian Life Insurance Company that also owned and marketed AEGON Funds , President and CEO of AEGON Dealer Services/Money Concepts, an established MFDA Mutual Fund Dealership/Franchised Financial Planning Firm, Managing Director of ING Funds, a start up Mutual Fund Company, Vice President Sales and Marketing for NN Financial, a growing Life Insurance Company, and, Vice President Individual Insurance of CT Financial Assurance, the Life Company subsidiary of Canada Trust. Doug started his career with Maple Leaf Foods, a leading Consumer Branded Packaged Goods company in progressively senior sales and marketing positions.
Tim is the CEO of RGAx, a wholly owned subsidiary of RGA Reinsurance Company, focused on developing new business innovations that bring trust and transparency to the distribution and underwriting of insurance. Tim started his career in 1996 as a pricing actuary and has previously led RGA’s US product development, management information and research teams. Most recently Tim served as RGA’s Global Head of Research and Development, overseeing predictive analytics, biometric research, competitive intelligence and actuarial experience analysis. Tim is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He is past chair of the Society of Actuaries’ Product Development Section Council and serves on the advisory board of the Longer Life Foundation.
James Weston is based in Zurich, Switzerland. He is the Head of International Advisory at GAM, which is a large independent asset manager, listed on the Swiss stock exchange. In this role James oversees the international distribution of GAM’s Multi-Asset offering, and the business development activities with IFAs, Insurance Companies, Trustees and Consumer Banks globally. James has worked in the international Financial Services world for 16 years, having been based in Hong Kong, London and now Zurich. Prior to joining GAM James had senior roles at Generali, Old Mutual and Skandia. Away from work James is a sports enthusiast. In the past he has represented Wales at Athletics, played international rugby for Hong Kong and recently captained Switzerland at the European Touch Rugby Championships.
